Sally Altman and her three month old daughter Hope Jacoby were found dead in Martin Luther King Drive in Florence, South Carolina on 20 March, 2014. Investigation revealed that they both were run over by a quick moving supercar, reportedly driven by underage heiress Calyce Gerhard.

Calyce Gerhard, who was seventeen during the time of the accident, was reportedly under the influence as she sped along the streets of Florence in her yellow 2014 Ferrari 458 Spider. According to a witness, the incident occurred at 11:42 PM, when Calyce hit Sally Altman who was attempting to cross the street holding her daughter Hope in her arms. Sally s head hit the car's windshield, killing her on spot, while Hope died after she was flung and landed head-first into the pavement, killing her as well. Calyce bought her car to a stop a couple of miles down the road, got out, and emptied bottles of champagne, beer and cola onto the front panels to remove the blood, and in a drunken state, threw the bottles into a dumpster, and drove off without chekcing on the bodies.

She called her step-mother, who passed the news to her father. Calyce parked the car in her penthouse, and it was taken away by men sent by her father, who wanted it refurbished and sold to a black market dealer in South Korea. Her father then immediately authorized the purchase of a similar looking Ferrari and had it delivered to Calyce's penthouse, and had the odometer readings changed to make it look used. It is also reported that celebrity photogropher George West was payed nearly $25,000 to destroy rare photos showing Calyce exiting her older Ferrari outside Nicole Bronsell's home in Los Angeles to prevent anyone from identifying Calyce's newer Ferrari by its numberplates.

Calyce then moved to an empty mansion owned by Steven Bronsell in Bronsell Island, and then went on a vacation to Alconbria.

A lengthy trial took place and in December 2014, Calyce Gerhard was acquitted of all charges and she sought $10 million in damages, prompting Sally's brothers to attempt to kill Calyce Gerhard on her 18th birthday along with her father, businessman Rodger Gerhard. Calyce survived, but her father was shot and killed, resulting in the imprisonment of both the Altman brothers.
